Document retrieval (or text retrieval refers to the algorithms and methods used to query and locate documents in large information systems. In a structured database queries often use indices for specific keys, but within a document retrieval system a free text index is usually required. More complex text processing may be used to computer similarities between documents or looking at human usage patterns for recommender systems to suggest potential documents.
